About

Amish Phonebook is an oxymoron, an Amish Phonebook, is one of the worlds smallest books, as the Amish do not have phones.

So what is the Amish Phonebook Podcast about?

First the podcast will be about Oxymoronic Life. (Daily Life)

The day to day life of most people on the planet goes on around them, it just happens. We hear phrases all of our day that are oxymoronic, like climb down, light traffic, never generalize, graduate student, new and improved. Just how do you improve something that is new? How can it be both New and Improved? How can the traffic be light? How is it that you can climb down?

Without these Oxymoronic says various parts of life just would not be functional. Much of our daily life requires a certain functional nativity, which in it’s self an oxymoron. Daily life requires that we ignore things that just don’t make sense, making sense out of the senseless daily is just odd.

Second the podcast will contain opinions - mine and yours.

The podcast are likely to contain my personal opinion and while the opinions expressed on “Amish Phonebook” are well-reasoned and insightful. Nevertheless they are not those of the BlueHost, Godaddy, or any hosting company, their associates or lackeys. Anyone who says otherwise if free to start their own podcast.

Send me your comments either via email, or mp3. Make sure to read the terms and conditions of the web site.

Third - things I like and/or may not like.

I read a lot, listen to talk radio, watch news. The world around us has so many things going on, it is hard to keep up with it all. Are we over loaded with massive amounts of information and does this massive amount of information and technology we have at our finger tips, help or hurt us? Does this information overwhelm us and blur our vision? Does it blur our vision of humanity? Do we control the world around us or are we controlled by the world?

For little over a year my wife and I were part of an Amish-Mennonite Community, we developed a hardy respect for the way things were done in Community. The experience proved to be an eye opener and wake up call. It was during this time we started looking at how much technology was controlling our life and how much we were controlling the technology.

During that year we gave up television, limited our contact with newspapers, and radio. Which was quite a challenge, as I am addicted to news - I am a media junky. I didn’t go a day without listening to the news or reading it. My wife wife would say I don’t go an hour.

My podcast will examine various aspects of that year and talk with others who have curtailed the control of media on life, and limited there usage of technology and who are living a simpler life. Recent studies suggest that simpler life may lead to a healthier life, longer life.

Forth - Citizen Journalism and Citizen Government

America the promise for a new way of life, free from excessive governmental control, no Kings, Barons, or Dukes. America’s landscape was wide open, room for everyone. So was the political landscape, but today both landscapes have changed. Since the formation of the first thirteen colonies the citizens of America trusted their news to citizens in the community, but during past 50 years that has changed. We want to continue to believe that news is independent, free from manipulation by outside sources. But todays news machine is controlled by corporate dictates, economic projects, and board members.

Citizen Journalism was thought to be part of our past, but thanks to computers and the Internet today Citizen Journalism is making a comeback. It is through Citizen Journalism we may once again find the truth in our news, not just the dollar and cents.

A government by the people for the people has also become a thing of the past, it will be through Citizen Journalism that Citizen Government will once again come to life. We have allow ourselves to fell comfortable wrapped in the protection of our Government, forgetting about the Constitution. Forgetting that our daily life is predicated on the Laws and Moral Compass as laid out in the Constitution.

Our question as Citizens should be can find our way back, to the vision laid out in the Constitution. Does the current political landscape of the United States represent the moral compass of the Constitution? Are we following the Constitution with the vision of the forefathers or our own vision? In the United States are all American created equal? Or is money the great Equalizer?

I will be doing brief show notes with links to stories, articles or site used in the podcast. I look forward to hearing from you, if you feel the need to take me to the carpet, call me out, or perhaps you even agree with me, I encourage you to send me your comments, either as voicemail, email an audio file, or we even like email, see Terms and Conditions. One last answer to a question I am sure you’ve considered, why is it called the Amish Phonebook? Why not? Easy to Remember, Funny and Unique!
